Learning objectives
-Recognize the value of illustrations as an artistic and educational language -Understand the relation between text and image Experiment the creative process in the illustration area Characterize and identify different forms of illustration -Identify the functions and the pictorial grammar of the illustration -Explain the importance of the illustration to the development of the aesthetic sensitivity and formulate critical judgments over the different typologies of the illustration Identify the main goals of the illustration in children´s books -Explain the importance of articulation between text and illustration Identify, know and use the technical and expressional aspects of several materials -Propose different ways of working the illustration, taking into account the age groups

Syllabus
1. Illustration as an artistic language 1.1 The concept of illustration 1.2 Principles of graphical representation in illustration: several typologies 1.3 Elements of communication and visual platform 1.4 Techniques and materials 1.5 The functions of illustration 1.6 Articulation between the text and image: the album and the illustrated book 1.7 Narrative forms for the youngsters 1.8 The graphical development in children 2. Artistic production and creation 2.1 Representational forms and ways 2.2 Materials, instruments and supports 2.3 Techniques of artistic expression 2.4 Representational expression

Teaching methodologies (including evalution)

Presentation; Debate; Documental analysis; group-works; Experiments. Theoretical-practical classes where the conjunction of the active and expositive method is utilized by making use of several strategies, chiefly amongst them: Contents exposition; Debates; Visualization and discussion of illustration works and movies regarding illustrators and their work process. Practical workshops to experiment techniques and work methods. Evaluation modes and correspondent consideration: Participation in the debates performed in the classroom:20% of the final evaluation Theoretical-practical work:60% of the final evaluation Oral presentation:20% of the final evaluation Several questions regarding the illustration will be debated with the students, during the classes. These will have to perform a theoretical-practical work constituted by a theoretical reasoning, a justification of the project´s pertinence and a set of exercises in the field of illustration and present it orally to the class.
