Recognise family as a fundamental space of construction of citizenship, respect for the individual and their development, and of construction of affection and safety Interprete social transformation and think them from a family perspective, as well a the different ways through which they reflect on competences and famiies functioning Problematise family as a violent space, of destrucutration and of denial of fundamental rights, taking into account contemporary social transformations Recognise the plurality of family models present in contemporary societies, analysing its dynamics and needs Mobilise instruments of caracterisation of families that allow a rigorous analysis, free from prejudice and judgment and objective, of needs analysis and obstacles to social and educational intervention Built strategies and intervention techniques with families, from a social and educational perspective, able to create autonomy and life projects

Contemporary family (ies): contexts, specificities and difficulties Family and social, economical, cultural and political transformations Family or families: the concept - difficulties criteria and limits Social exclusion, poverty and families: a brief analysis on the portuguese reality New models of family? Family crisis or adaptation? Family as a social and educational space Family functions versus family needs Family as a space of multiple living Models of family analysis: systemic, epistemological and ecological perspective Families competences: concept and types Children in family settings: parental competences Families and social and educational intervention a) multiproblemam families: concept, criteria and theoretical perspectives b) problem analysis c) families needs: prioritizing, types and evaluation d) intervention: the role of professionals and the limits of intervention network intervention and multidisciplinary in the construction of family plans

Teaching methodologies (including evalution)

The curricular unit is structured on theoretical lessons neede to built the discussion and introduction of concepts and theoretical frameworks that are central to the subject. These are frequently upported on readings of texts brought to the classroom. At the same time, theoretical and pratical lessons discuss those concepts and interventions in family settings from these practical cases. Students are invited to apply these knowledges in a practical case (60%) done during the weeks of the classes. At the same time, students write an individual reflection that aims to assess the level of aprheension of concepts central to the curricular unit (40%)
