Learning objectives
- recongise communities as spaces of citizenship construction - identify caracterisitics of local development that enhance or diminish the quality of life of different communities - mobilise methodological and theoretical knowldege that allow the analysis and intervention in community contexts, free from judgement and prejudice - recognise to different communtiites elements that allow them an autonomous growth that potentiates resources and solutions - recognise the importance of networking and partnership for the success of community intervention

Syllabus
1. territory a) territory dynamics b) the city: perspectives on cities c) cities and space appropriation: the deprived areas of cities d) city centre and peripherical areas: the case of Porto city e) dynamics of local urban development: cultural practices and associations 2. Communities a) concept and theoretical perspectives b) contributes from different subjects in the analysis of communities c) community participation and social groups 3. Community intervention acommunity participation b) concepts and models of community intervention c) analysis of community projects: a critical reflection d) profile of community workers, netwroking and partnerships as conditions for community intervention

Teaching methodologies (including evalution)

Theoretical classes work with main concepts and teoretical frameworks that are central to the curricular unit and discuss ir inside the classroom. teachers perform a final synthesis on these learnings. Theoretical-practical classes are used for he presentation of critical reading of selected texts. These are then debated by the class where teachers have the task of performing a final synthesis of main concepts. Throughout classe students develop individual work sueprvised by teachers and group work with final presentations and debate. Evaluation wise groups work has 50% weighting in the final grade whereas individual work as a 40%. Attendance and participation are eqully valued (10%)
