Learning objectives
Understand the sustainability issues and critically analyze territories growth.
Interperte the transformation processes of society transformations, resources and territories.
Understand and reflect on the challenges / society transformation processes, resources and territories.
Understanding the importance on promoting values, atitude and behaviour change, in order to prepare students for the exercise of a conscience, dynamic and informed citizenship regarding current problems.
Use theoretical knowledge to adequate pedagogical practices to promote equity, based on a sustainable development model.
Integrate approaches to teaching and learning between science and society and the use of ICT/GIT.
Recognize the value of environment protection, territory planning, management and development to address geographical inequalities.
Mobilize, select and adequate educational resources for a better understanding of space and interaction.
Syllabus
1. Sustainable development;
2. Science, Environment and processes and impacts on society;
3. Territory and Society;
4. Education, sustainability and geographical thought;
5. Territory dynamics, natural resources, geodiversity and geoconservation;
6. Socio-economic sectors and biophysical systems;
7. Geographical interaction and sustainable development;
8. Scales and geographical perspectives.
Teaching methodologies (including evalution)
Analysis and discussion of scientific papers related to the environmental sciences and the issue of sustainability.
Observation, interpretation and reflection of territorial dynamics using ICT / GIT, particularly satellite imagery, dynamic maps and other thematic / general and geoportals maps.
Case studies of spatial planning to critically analyze sustainability strategies, territorial valorization, cultural identity and resources.
Elaborate, present and discuss of a work, carried out in groups, giving evidence of some proposals for structured activities, interdisciplinary and participatory approach.
Students are assessed by presenting an individual assignment (30%) and the completion and presentation of the group work (70%).Essential Bibliography (including ISBN)
